10 little ladybugs

I asked Mini Piwi to choose a book she wanted to do some 'arts' (Mini piwi's word to describe her tot school) with. I had been doing the choosing so I was interested to see what she would come up with. She disappeared into Miss K's room and came back with '10 little ladybugs' by Melanie Gerth

This has been one book that both kids have yet to grow tired of after years of reading it. I think it is the catchy rhyme and the 2D ladybugs that 'disappear' that makes it more fun. We read the book and  pulled out her C is for Caterpillar folder and did this activity from 1+1+1=1

After 'night night', I worked on making up some bugs and critters. At this point I wasn't too sure what we were going to make with them. Thankfully I woke up with an idea to turn it into a felt board/puppet show activity. Mini Piwi glued all of the critters onto cardstock squares.
We attached popsicle to all the animals except the ladybugs.
I draw a background for the ladybugs to rest on.

As I read the book, Mini Piwi would hold up the animal on the page that was taking a ladybug away and pop one ladybug under the flower flap. We counted down until they were all gone, just like in the book...and then Mini Piwi got to open the flap for the surprise ending...

Mini Piwi & the Scales

There are so many nice printables for Christmas! Mini Piwi had fun with the tracing ones -she wanted to do all the ones I had printed in one go..

Every day this week we had at least one set of scales out for Big Sis's Math. Mini Piwi usually claimed it after our lesson and weighed everything from Christmas decorations to toys.

I really thought this decorating activity would be a hit but Mini Piwi is started to frustrated if a star  wasn't perfectly placed....We moved onto something else.

Also as part of our Hands on Math projects this week we did allsorts with Candy canes. Comparing sizes and mass and using them to measure the table.

Mini Piwi also became her big sis's fashion model this week and I was treated to multiple fashion shows.

Counting, Crafts and St Nick

This week Mini Piwi was busy busy with all her Christmas Crafts. She can't get enough since we started Truth in the Tinsel.
The Christmas sensory box made it's first appearance. It was pretty popular....

For St Nicholas day we gave Krispie cringle a makeover to make our own little St Nicholas

Miss K was writing her letter to Santa on St Nicholas day and Mini Piwi insisted she was going to write one too! She told me what she would like and then signed her name and added stickers.

Mini Piwi helped make Happy Herbivore's Self crusting pumpkin pie. As soon as I step in the kitchen now she is carrying her 'helping chair' to see what's going on and help out.  The pie was yum!!

This week we worked on counting by adding buttons to Gingerbread men. We went up to 5.
Mini Piwi loved it.

Setting the Turkeys Free Craft

Last week we picked out 'Setting the Turkey's Free' at the Library. I reviewed it here.

Mini Piwi made her very own turkey hand today -She traced all by herself.  Miss K was inspired to make more Turkeys with her. When they bought them to me while I was cooking dinner, I left the pans and grabbed the glitter glue.
Miss K made a setting for her Turkey,

Mini Piwi's Turkey was all about the glitter....

Miss K makes a Lapbook for Mini Piwi

I am a proud Mama!!

Miss K was asking about the printables I had been downloading for Mini Piwi. She decided to make one. Her reasoning was that she knew what all little kids would be interested in...her Tot pack theme?
Candy.
This is her testing version that Mini Piwi is going to try out...

Miss K has outsourced the publishing of the printable version to me....

We will let you know how Mini Piwi rates it.

Early start to Advent

So today we got to make our first Craft for Truth in the tinsel. We started a week earlier than our advent Calendar so we could also begin the Amanda Bennet online Christmas Co-op. The extra days also mean we can hopefully get all the crafts during the weekdays and do some other family fun we have planned for the weekends.

Without giving too much away for the folks who haven’t seen the lil' Kid Advent Meditation. Our first theme today was light and we made a candle craft.  It was only the first day but I am definitely sold on Truth in the Tinsel.  It held the attention of my 3 and 7 yr. old and they both enjoyed the craft. It was simple enough for Mini Piwi to make and something that Miss K could do by herself and add her own touches to it. Amanda points out in the e-book that you can easily adapt the crafts to what you have on hand. For example, today I couldn’t print out a template.  Thankfully the new printer is on its way.  After a few attempts I managed to cut out a rectangular version of the frame without the template.

They got to ripping up paper and gluing to make a very cute ornament.

For now they are hanging on the fridge while they await the arrival of our Christmas tree.  Did I mention we had moved again?
